Futures, CFDs and spread bets are high risk; most retail traders lose money. Education only, not advice. Risk warning

About Good Trading Guide

Good Trading Guide is a free, independent trading education site for UK beginners. Our aim is simple: help people learn to trade honestly, from scratch – including learning when trading isn’t for them.

Who we are

Good Trading Guide is a small, independent UK website. We aren’t a broker, a prop firm, a signal service or a financial adviser, and we aren’t authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). We don’t manage money, take trades for anyone or give personal recommendations.

We started the site because most trading content beginners find is either selling a course, selling a challenge or showing off profits. We wanted a place that explains how trading actually works, what it really costs and why most retail traders lose money – in plain English and with the UK rules that matter here.

How we make money

Right now, we don’t. There are no affiliate links, adverts or sponsored articles anywhere on this site, and no broker or prop firm has paid us anything.

That may change, and we’d rather tell you now how it would work:

  • Affiliate links (in future). We may later add links to some prop firms or brokers. If you sign up or buy through one of those links, the firm would pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. Every such link will be marked (Ad) before you click it, and any page that is mainly about firms we earn from will say “Ad” at the top.
  • Low-cost guides (in future). We plan to sell a few inexpensive PDF workbooks, such as a trading plan and journal workbook. Everything you need to learn will stay free on the site; the PDFs are for people who want a printable, organised version.
  • No paid rankings, ever. Firms can’t pay to appear in our lessons, to be rated higher or to have criticism removed. If we ever run a sponsored placement, it will be labelled “Sponsored”.

When any of this changes, we’ll update this section and the date at the bottom of the page.

Editorial independence

  • Our lessons are written to teach, not to sell. We won’t end lessons by telling you to buy a challenge or open an account.
  • No firm sees, approves or edits our content before it’s published, and commercial relationships won’t change what a lesson says.
  • We don’t publish win rates, income claims or “secret” strategies, and we don’t use testimonials or reviews we can’t verify.
  • We don’t promote crypto derivatives to UK consumers, which the FCA has banned for retail customers.

How we research and review our pages

  • Primary sources first. Rules and figures come from the FCA, legislation.gov.uk, GOV.UK and HMRC, and providers’ own published disclosures. We link to our sources so you can check them.
  • Examples are hypothetical. Worked examples are labelled as illustrations. They aren’t real results and they don’t predict what you would make or lose.
  • Limitations included. Every strategy page explains when the approach tends to struggle, not just how it’s meant to work.
  • Dated and re-checked. Pages with numbers that change – loss percentages, prices, tax rates and helpline details – show a “last reviewed” date and are re-checked regularly (tax rates each April).
  • How we use tools. We use research and AI writing tools to help gather sources and draft pages. A person checks every page against its sources before it’s published.
  • Comparing prop firms (when we do). We’ll judge firms on things you can check: total cost including resets and repeat attempts, rules that commonly cause failures, payout terms and how clearly the firm explains them. Each comparison will show the date we checked it. Paying us won’t change a firm’s position.

Corrections and contact

If you spot a mistake or something out of date, please tell us at hello@goodtradingguide.co.uk. We correct errors promptly and note significant changes on the page. We can’t give personal trading, investment or tax advice by email.

FAQs

How does Good Trading Guide make money?

Right now, it doesn’t: the site is free, with no adverts, sponsored articles or affiliate links. In future some links to prop firms or brokers may become affiliate links, clearly marked (Ad), and we may sell low-cost workbooks. Neither will ever affect our rankings, reviews or lessons. Risk warning: Trading futures, spread bets and CFDs carries a high risk of losing money quickly, and most retail traders lose money. Futures are leveraged: a small price move can cause large losses, and unlike CFDs, retail futures accounts don’t have negative balance protection, so you can lose more than your deposit. Prop firm challenges are paid evaluations: most people who buy one don’t pass, and funded accounts are usually simulated. Nothing on this site is financial advice. 18+ only. Full risk warning.
