This privacy policy explains how Good Trading Guide collects and uses personal information when you visit goodtradingguide.co.uk (and goodtradingguide.com, which simply redirects there), email us, or use any of the services described below. We’ve tried to keep it plain English.
1. Who we are
Good Trading Guide is a trading name of Genuine Part Sales Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17146896), registered office 66 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NA.
Genuine Part Sales Ltd is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. That means we decide how and why it is used, and we’re responsible for looking after it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
Contact: email hello@goodtradingguide.co.uk or write to the registered office above. We haven’t appointed a Data Protection Officer, because the law doesn’t require one for a business of our size, but any privacy question sent to that address will be dealt with.
2. The short version
- You can read the whole site without giving us your name or email address.
- We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for profiling or automated decisions that affect you.
- Cookies that aren’t strictly necessary are only used if you agree to them, through our cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time.
- You have rights over your data, including to see it, correct it and have it deleted. See section 9.
3. Information we collect and why
| What | When | Why we use it | Lawful basis (UK GDPR) | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Technical data: IP address, browser type, device, pages requested, date and time | Every time you visit (our hosting provider’s server logs and security systems) | To deliver the website, keep it secure, and spot and block attacks or abuse | Legitimate interests (running a secure website) | Server logs are kept by our host for a short period, usually no more than 30 days, unless needed to investigate a security incident |
| Your cookie choices | When you use the cookie banner | To remember your choice so we don’t ask on every page, and to keep a record that consent was given | Legal obligation (to show we obtained consent) and legitimate interests | Up to 12 months, then we ask again |
| Emails you send us: your name, email address and whatever you include | When you email hello@goodtradingguide.co.uk | To reply, handle corrections or complaints, and keep a record of the conversation | Legitimate interests (responding to enquiries); legal obligation where a complaint or legal request is involved | Up to 2 years after the conversation ends, unless we need it longer for a legal claim |
| Newsletter (when launched): email address, first name if given, sign-up date and source, and whether you open emails or click links | Only if you sign up | To send the newsletter you asked for | Consent – you can unsubscribe with one click in any email | Until you unsubscribe; we then keep your email on a suppression list so you aren’t emailed again |
| Purchases (when our PDF shop launches): name, email, country, order details | Only if you buy a product | To deliver your purchase, handle refunds and keep tax records | Contract; legal obligation (tax and accounting records) | 6 years after the end of the financial year of the purchase (HMRC record-keeping) |
We don’t knowingly collect special category data (such as health information). Please don’t send us this kind of information by email. The site is for adults (18+) only and isn’t aimed at children. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
We do not have user accounts, and comments are switched off on the site.
4. Who we share it with
We only share personal information with service providers who help us run the site, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only on our instructions (as processors), or where the law requires it:
- Hostinger – website hosting. Our site is hosted on servers in the United Kingdom.
- Cloudflare – domain name (DNS) services, the redirect from goodtradingguide.com, and forwarding of emails sent to hello@goodtradingguide.co.uk.
- Runbox – our email provider, which stores emails you send us.
- Payhip – runs our PDF shop (when launched). When you buy, Payhip and its payment processors (such as Stripe or PayPal) process your payment details directly. We never see your full card details. Payhip handles checkout and VAT as described in its own privacy policy.
- Professional advisers – such as our accountant or solicitor, where needed.
- Authorities – such as HMRC, the police or a regulator, where we’re legally required to share information.
If the business or this website were ever sold or transferred, personal information may pass to the new owner, who would have to follow this policy.
5. International transfers
Our website is hosted in the UK. Some of our providers (for example Cloudflare, and payment or email services) may process data in the United States or elsewhere outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards UK law allows, such as the UK–US “data bridge” for certified US companies, or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files saved on your device. PECR says we can only set cookies that aren’t strictly necessary if you consent, and you can refuse them without it affecting your access to the site.
Strictly necessary cookies (no consent needed):
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| cmplz_* (e.g. cmplz_banner-status, cmplz_consented_services, cmplz_policy_id, cmplz_functional, cmplz_statistics, cmplz_marketing, cmplz_preferences) | Good Trading Guide (cookie banner plugin) | Remembers your cookie choices | Up to 365 days |
| Security / bot-protection cookies (if any) | Our host or Cloudflare | Protects the site from attacks and abuse | Session to 30 minutes |
WordPress may also set login cookies, but only for site administrators who log in. Ordinary visitors don’t receive them.
Analytics: We don’t currently use any analytics or tracking tools on this site, so no analytics cookies are set. The only cookies are the ones listed above for the cookie banner and site security. If we add analytics in future, we’ll update this policy first and only load any analytics that set cookies if you consent.
Affiliate cookies (future): Some pages may in future include links to brokers, prop firms or other companies. These are clearly labelled (Ad). If you click one, the company you visit (or its affiliate network) may set a cookie on its own website to record that you arrived from us, so that we can be paid a commission if you sign up. Those cookies are set by them, on their site, under their own cookie and privacy policies, so please check those. We don’t place affiliate tracking cookies on goodtradingguide.co.uk without your consent.
Embedded content (future): If we embed videos or other content from third parties (such as YouTube), those embeds will be blocked until you consent to them.
Changing your mind: You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the “Manage consent” link at the bottom of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; see ico.org.uk/for-the-public/online/cookies.
The full, up-to-date list of cookies is on our cookie policy.
7. Marketing emails
We’ll only send you marketing emails (such as our newsletter or news about our own guides and PDFs) if you’ve signed up for them. Every email has an unsubscribe link. We won’t pass your email address to brokers, prop firms or anyone else for their marketing.
8. How we protect your information
The site uses HTTPS encryption throughout. We use strong passwords and two-step sign-in where available for the accounts that run the site, keep WordPress and its plugins updated, and limit access to personal information to people who need it. No website can be completely secure, but if a breach happens that’s likely to put you at risk, we’ll tell you and the ICO as the law requires.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you (a “subject access request”);
- correct information that’s wrong or incomplete;
- delete your information in certain circumstances;
- restrict how we use it in certain circumstances;
- object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
- data portability – receive information you gave us in a reusable format, where we rely on consent or contract;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent (this doesn’t affect anything we did before you withdrew it).
To use any of these rights, email hello@goodtradingguide.co.uk. There’s normally no charge, and we’ll reply within one month. We may need to confirm your identity first.
10. Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first and we’ll try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
11. Links to other websites
Our pages link to other websites, such as official sources, regulators and (in future) companies we review. We’re not responsible for how those sites handle your information, so please read their privacy policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when we add new features (for example the newsletter or shop) or when the law changes. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change significantly affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll tell you directly where we can.
